Overview Andrew Garrett, 1823-1887, was an American explorer, self taught naturalist and artist specializing in malacology and ichthyology. Many of his works are considered classics, including his multi-volumed catalog Fische der Sundsee, and particularly his "Terrestrial Mollusca Inhabiting the Society Islands" (JANSP 9: 17-114), which formed the basis for the important work of Hartman and Crampton. The key in this collection is located inside of a file folder. The key is to an antique desk and has a note attached by string that reads: Lower Right Drawer of my desk, Philadelphia. The key was gifted to the Archives by Gary Rosenberg, a curator in the Malacology Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.

Antique Stoppered Glass Vials

This collection consists of antique viles from the Malacology Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences. The viles were used for invertebrate paleontology wet collection. The viles were transfered to the archives by John Sime. There are currently sixty-three glass vials and fifty-two glass lids.

Overview Charles Alexandre Lesueur, 1778-1846, artist and naturalist, participated in Napoleon's expedition to Australia (1800-1804), and joined William Maclure in his geologic survey of Europe, the West Indies and the Eastern United States (1815-1817).
